The Conservatory – School of Arts of Madeira will mark International Jazz Day this Thursday, April 30, with a concert at the Casa da Cultura in Câmara de Lobos, scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The performance will be presented by the Combo of the Professional Jazz Instrumentalist Course of the Conservatory and will be artistically directed by Professor Francisco Andrade. Admission is free, subject to venue capacity, according to information released by the institution.
The initiative is part of the celebrations of International Jazz Day and aims to highlight the work carried out by the students throughout the school year. The Conservatory says the concert will feature a varied repertoire, offering the public an opportunity to experience “up close the emerging talent and the educational journey of these young musicians”.
In addition to its artistic dimension, the concert also seeks to strengthen the connection between the school and the wider community, contributing to local cultural life and to the promotion of new generations of performers. Holding the event in Câmara de Lobos is also part of a broader effort to decentralise cultural activity and bring artistic training closer to different audiences.
International Jazz Day is celebrated annually on April 30. Proclaimed by UNESCO in 2011, the date highlights the role of jazz as a force for peace, dialogue and mutual understanding. In 2026, the celebration marks its 15th anniversary, with events taking place in more than 190 countries.
In Madeira, the Conservatory has played an important role in training musicians in this field. Its Jazz Course, described by the institution as the first of its kind in the Region, has been active almost continuously for 24 years and has contributed to the training and recognition of regional musicians.
